Fix the place, date and time window
Open the intended spot, confirm its time zone and update time, then note arrival and return. An old screenshot or a forecast for the next bay is not the same record. Reopen the forecast before departure.
Read the fields in a consistent order
Start with local warnings. Then compare hourly weather, wind and gusts, sea conditions and the listed tide events. Keep unavailable fields marked as unknown. An attractive temperature should not make another missing field disappear from your plan.
Choose a clear stopping condition
Decide in advance where you will check official warnings and access information. If thunder is heard, seek a substantial building or enclosed metal-topped vehicle; a tree or open shelter is not suitable lightning protection.
Close the loop after the trip
Save the place, write down your plan and add observations afterward. Note changes, missing information and why you left or stayed. This turns a one-off forecast lookup into a record you can use next time.
Try it on your next trip
- Confirm the actual spot, local hours and forecast update.
- Check warnings, wind, gusts, waves and tide events before leaving.
- Save the spot and complete a fishing-journal entry after the trip.
